Use of subsurface irrigation techniques for weed suppression in date palm plantations
Weeds growing in date palm irrigation basins are a problem on many farms, as they waste considerable amounts of irrigation water, and compete with the palms for nutritional elements. An experiment on Al Foah Experimental Farm tests whether injection of irrigation water beneath the rooting zone of the weeds could help to control these, and possibly reduce the use of herbicides in date palm production in the UAE.
