2009 Chancellor's Undergraduate Research AwardOur Food and Agriculture, Nutrition and Health Students Win First Place of the 2009 Chancellor's Undergraduate Research Award (CURA). As a result of their hard work and commitment, a team of four students from the Department of Nutrition and Health, Faculty of Food and Agriculture, won the first place of the 2009 Chancellor's Undergraduate Research Award (CURA). The team members, Iman Rashid Al-qulhati, Serine Mor, Noura Al-Ameri, and Noura Sheikh Al-Zoor, submitted and presented their research paper with the title Antioxidant capacity and Phenolic Content of Eighteen Date Palm Fruit and Seed Varieties from UAE in front of the CURA Committee and in the presence of other faculty and students from the University community on October 6th, 2009. The research was conducted under the supervision of Dr. Wissam Ibrahim and Dr. Hosam Habib. Results from this research showed that depending on the variety, date fruits and date seeds contain high and variable amounts of antioxidants and that date fruits and date seeds could be used as functional foods or constituents.  |  |
