The event will be held on the UAE University campus (Maqam Female Campus), in March 24-25, 2009, The overall objective of the conference is to extend the most recent information, research and knowledge presented by well-known international speakers in fields of agriculture, agribusiness, food sciences, and nutrition to all experts in the UAE and the GCC countries in the following areas: We expect to attract professionals, experts (from Government and Private Sectors), more than 10,000 female students, Visitors and policy maker attendees from all over the UAE, GCC countries. We appreciate that this updates 2009 in this year the senior decision makers have many demands place on their time, so running these events parallel ensure that you can sources complete solutions, professional and producers from one day events. Food and Agriculture Festival 2008Faculty of Food and Agriculture organized its first "Food and Agriculture Festival 2008" theme (Food and Health is everyone business), in Wednesday 26 till Friday 28 November 2008 in AlJimi Mall. This fantastic three-day event consist of many educational and entertainment programs. There will be something for everyone, with information to Entertainment around the world. Different show will be provided, with a range of flowers and international artists to perform at the festival. The Festival will include many different services such as Meals Plan, Blood Testing (for glucose & brusher), Measuring body weight & height Correlation and Counseling, to provide community with the opportunity to expand their knowledge and share their interests. And for the first time in Al Ain and within the food and Agriculture festival a Carnival tour will start from the Islamic Institute building through the main streets of AlAin city to AlJimi Mall building. FFA Donates 1500 kg of Dates to the Red Crescent 
Upon the guidelines of H. H. Sheikh Nahayan Mabarak Al Nahayan, Minister of Higher Education and Scientific Research and Chancellor of the UAEU, and under the patronage of H.E. Dr. Abdulla Al-Khanbashi, Vice-Chancellor, the Faculty of Food and Agriculture donated 1500 kg of dates to the UAE Red Crescent on September 14, 2008. The ceremony of handing over the dates to the Red Crescent was attended by Dr. Fatima AlShamsi, General Secretary, Prof. Ghaleb Alhadrami, College Dean, Mr. Hamad Alshamsi, Director of Red Crescent Authority (Al Ain), Dr. Aisha Abushelaibi, Vice-Dean, Dr. Mohammed Salem, Dean Assistant for scientific research, Dr. Mohammed Alhamadi, Deans Assistants for Student Affairs (Male), Dr. Ayesha AlDhaheri Deans Assistants for Student Affairs (Female), faculty and students. Dates grown at the CFA Farm were packed by the CFA female students at Al Foah Date Company which fumigated and washed the dates free of charge as a contribution to the donation. Dr. Ayesha AlDhaheri spotlighted the importance of these activities and highlighted the role of the students and their contribution in effectively mobilizing the dates from the beginning of the factory until its arrival at Red Crescent. Dr. Aisha Abushelaibi, Vice-Dean, expressed the importance of such charitable activities in Ramadan to instill moral values in students. Agreement with "AIC" for the Accreditation Program
United Arab Emirates University signed recently an Agreement with the Agricultural Institute of Canada's AIC for the accreditation program to undertake a review of the Agricultural Degree Programs in Faculty of Food and Agriculture; to determine if they are substantially equivalent to programs at Canadian academic institutions to which AIC, in partnership with provincial agrologist organizations and Canadian universities and colleges, has granted full accreditation. | The Department of Agribusiness and Consumer sciences organized a symposium titled "Consumer Protection" which was among the activities of the 'Third GCC Day for Consumer Protection'. The symposium was held at Theater of the Islamic Institute on 30 April 2008 and at the Cinema of the Students' Activity Building in Maqam on 6 May 2008. The symposium's goal was to increase the awareness of the members of university community of the issues of consumer rights and duties plus other issues related to consumer protection in UAE. |  | The Department of Consumer Protection of the Ministry of Economy sponsored the symposium. The Faculty of Food and Agriculture takes this opportunity to thank the Ministry for this collaboration and hoping for it to continue in the future.
Two Faculty Members form Department of Food Sciences won Project Awards during "The Ninth Annual UAEU Research Conference"
|  | Congratulations to Dr. Ibrahim Omer who won the Funded Individual Project Award from the Ninth Annual UAEU Research Conference, hold in Al Ain Rotana Hotel, April 21st to 23rd,2008. His presentation was entitled �A Heat Transfer Model for Canned Tomato Concentrate during Continuous Industrial Pasteurization. | This is a funded individual project supported by the research affair for the year 2007/2008. Congratulations to Dr. Hanan Afifi (instructor) who got also the Non-Funded Project Award, Her paper was entitled Study of Glass Transition and Water Activity of Grape/Peach Juice Blended Milk Powder in collaboration with Dr. Aisha Abu Shelaibi and Dr.Louis Laleye. 27th Men's Graduation(April 22, 2008)

Sheikh Mohammed Bin Rashid Al Maktoom- the Vice- president and Prime Minister, Ruler of Dubai H.H. Sheikh Nahyan Bin Mubarak Al Nahyan Chancellor of the UAE University celebrated the 27th Men's Graduation in April 22nd 2008 in Alain Sports and Cultural Club. 2848 Male and female Students were gradated 568 of them were Male Graduate students. The celebration was attended by Faculty of Food and Agriculture Dean, faculty, students and staff. We congratulate our Graduating Students: Iyad Sadiq Ahmed Ayman Munassar Alnahdi Ali Bay Toybou Aomran Abdulrassoul and wish them well in their careers. The UAE Ministry of Health is studying the implementation of the new WHO Growth Curves Standards in the UAE | The Health Authority of Abu Dhabi- Al Ain Hospital in cooperation with the United Arab Emirates University, Faculty of Food and Agriculture- Department of Nutrition and Health, organized a National Training Workshop on the New Growth Curves Standards. 21 Hours workshop based on the concept of adult interactive learning, Accredited by Health Authority Abu Dhabi. The target audience is the Pediatricians, Family Practice Physicians, Nurses, Clinical Officers, Health assistants and Nutritionists Working in Public and Private Sectors. |  | The Activity has concluded its activities in April 27, 2008 - Al Ain Hospital. The National training workshop is the first step in the adoption of the New Growth Curves in the United Arab Emirates. The workshop objective is to train health professionals in UAE to gain skills and knowledge on the newly introduced WHO Growth Curves Standards, which was carried out on March 24 - 27, 2008, came out with many recommendations towards the possible implementation of these standards in the UAE. Upon the completion of this national workshop, the Minister of Health, his excellency Mr. Hameed Al Qatami, met the workshop panel, and discuss the advantages of implementing the new standards on the UAE children. Food and Agriculture Update Symposium on "Challenges for the Poultry Industry"
Under the patronage of H.E. Dr. Abdullah AlKhanbashi, Acting Vice Chancellor of United Arab Emirates University, Faculty of Food and Agriculture in cooperation with the Union of Arab Committee for Scientific Development, Arab Federation of Scientific Research Council Organizes Food and Agriculture Update, Symposium on "Challenges for the Poultry Industry". Poultry Experts Meeting will be held during the Symposium on the 25th of March 9:00 am to discuss the current status and future prospective of poultry industry in Arab world. The meeting will include experts from Egypt, Sudan, Morocco, Lebanon, Yemen, USA, UK and United Arab Emirates. The organizers with the support of the sponsors took this action to encourage the scientific cooperation between the Arab countries with the aim of improving cooperation to focus on problems of urgent needs for poultry industry development. Orientation Day for UGRU Students 
The Faculty of Food and Agriculture organized the orientation day for the males at UGRU on 16th and 17th of Dec. 2007 to attract the attention of the students present at UGRU. The Faculty was presented before the students in the best way that could really motivate them to know the departments. The event was meaningful and served the goal that we aimed at. Graduate Student from Wageningen University on visit to conduct research on camels 
Miss. Woutrien de Bruin is doing a Master in Animal Sciences at the Wageningen University (http://www.adp.wur.nl/UK/). She arrived from Holland on October 21, 2007 to do her research on camels under the supervision of Prof. Ghaleb Alhadrami. Her research will focus on the effect of water deprivation on physiological performance of young and racing camels. She will spend four months conducting research in the College of Food and Agriculture. Woutrien is fascinated by camels and that is why she is interested in doing her master research in camels. She said in Holland there are not many of these fascinating animals so she had to go abroad for more research. This brought her to the UAE University and she is very pleased to be here and the college is very pleased to have her. woutrien.debruin@wur.nl First National Food Safety Awareness Week(October 21 -24, 2007) 
H. E. Dr. Abdulla Al-Khanbashi, Provost of the UAE University inaugurated the "First National Food Safety Awareness Week". The event is under the patronage of H. E. Dr. Hadef Bin Jouan Al Dhaheri, Vice Chancellor of the UAE University, the College of Food and Agriculture organized this event in collaboration with the UAE University catering unit, from October 21-24, 2007, at the College of Food and Agriculture Farm, at Al Foah, Al Ain. The objective is to create awareness about food safety throughout the UAE community and to strengthen the cooperation between UAE University and other governmental agencies, the food establishments and the community at large. The 3rd Nutrition Education Week(March 25 - 29, 2007)
